Senior Infants

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is our last week of school and we are taking it easy with the workload again and revising the things we did.

We would love for you to ask your child what some of their favourite memories of Senior Infants are e.g. Aistear, Christmas Play, Lego workshop, P.E, Art etc. It would be so lovely to draw a picture or write some of those memories and send to us by Friday. As always, we would love to see any work you are proud of!

We have loved being your teachers this year and you have done great work. Remember to play outside and inside and have a well-earned break! Keep practicing your writing, sounds and tricky words at home and you will be super readers!

We hope you and your families have a lovely Summer and we wish you all the best in First Class.

Best Wishes

Mrs. Dixon, Ms. Walsh and Ms. Fitzgibbon

Continue to practice the jolly phonics sounds and digraphs from last week.
This week why not have a go at sounding out some of the words in the link below, remember to use your sounds and digraphs
Words to blend
We will focus on revision of the vowel digraphs in particular this week (grid below). Try and think of as many words as you can for each one. This will be tricky!!

Tricky Words: Next 10 words (go, no, so, my, one, by, like, have, live, give) and previous 20
Practice saying and writing our tricky words. Use our look, say, cover and write technique.

Here are a few new suggestions for things to do with the tricky words this week:
  •     Tricky Word Hunt: either around the house or in your favourite bedtime story
  •     Put the tricky Words in a bag, pull out one and see can you say it, if you can you keep it and continue until all are gone (if you don't know the word, maybe someone can tell you the word so you know it for next time)
Writing

This week we will be looking at the farm and all the animals that live there. Have a look at this picture below and see can you write some sentences about it; I can see the pig, Look at the big cow etc. Keep your sentences simple and remember to use our tricky words, digraphs and sounds....

Reading

Continue reading lots of books together using our 1st steps techniques ( I wonder if, I think, This reminds me of...)
And let's not forget all the fabulous free e-books on www.oxfordowl.co.uk.
As we are looking at and discussing the farm this week we thought the children could listen to the story 'Farmer Duck' and maybe draw their favourite part of the story;
How about try this little game about the farm animals;

Maths

Counting:
Counting from 0 - 18 (different starts)
Counting from 18 - 0 (different starts)
Ordering numbers 0 - 10 (ask questions: what comes before 5?/what is in between 3 and 5?/what comes after 9? etc)
Don't forget about the cool ordering and counting games from last week!!

Number Work: 10

This week we are going to begin looking at the number 10. Below is a Power Point from Twinkl which will go through the number 10 in an interactive way with the children;

We have also included some links to songs about the Number 10
Here are some worksheets which you might like to try with your child but if you do not have a printer, no problem at all. They can just as easily be drawn, if you feel like getting creative!!

This week is Active Home Week so we are encouraging the children to try to achieve 60 minutes of physical activity each day. There is a chart to fill in if you would like to keep track. Why not get the whole family involved!!
